Oct. 23 – Sales of heavy duty trucks continue to surpass all expectations, with a 20.2% gain in September over last year’s figures.

With sales last month of 18,322 heavy trucks and year-to-date deliveries of 151,796, according to figures from the American Automobile Manufacturers Assn., the industry looks poised to set another record. Sales are now expected to hit 204,549 this year, reports the Journal of Commerce, topping the 1995 record of 201,303.
Analysts foresee lighter sales next year as the economy slows down and a glut of new trucks affects the market.
While Freightliner continues to lead in market share, with sales up nearly 32% compared to last year, Volvo has kept up its trend of beating last year’s figures by 40% to 50%. Volvo’s year-to-date deliveries have soared more than 50% over last year.
