Ryder System has announced that all new vehicles coming into its commercial rental fleet will be spec'ed with such safety technologies as forward-looking radar and collision-mitigation systems.

Going forward, the company said the new vehicles will "become the standard specification for Ryder’s commercial rental fleet" as it responds to increasing demand from customers looking to improve fleet performance, safety, and driver job satisfaction.

"This is one more way we are demonstrating our commitment to maximizing the performance of our customers’ fleets while providing the flexibility and convenience of a rental solution,” said Richard Mohr, vice president and global product manager of Ryder rental operations. “Ryder takes pride in offering the latest fleet technologies to help its rental customers mitigate overall risk and increase safety for everyone on the road.”

These safety technologies have been available as an option to Ryder’s ChoiceLease customers for several years and the company is now making them standard within its Commercial Rental product line for new vehicles being delivered into service this spring.

Ryder also incorporates other advanced technologies into its fleet of vehicles, including automated manual transmissions, roll stability controls, and telematics. The company also uses video monitoring and management systems in its Dedicated Transportation Solution fleet.

Ryder said it is also monitoring other emerging fleet technologies and working closely with technology providers and manufacturers to provide feedback around functionality, usability, and adaptability.

“Ryder plays an important role in advancing the safety environment on the road,” said Sandy Hodes, Ryder senior vice president and deputy general counsel. “As an industry leader in safety and security, we recognize the importance of investing in innovative fleet technologies that enable us to make continuous improvements around safe practices and behaviors.”
