Used Class 8 same-dealer truck sales volumes fell in April, ending an upward trend from the past few months, according to the latest numbers from ACT Research.

Volumes fell by 3% from March and are down by the same percentage compared with April 2015. While there have been steady increases in same dealer volumes so far this year, ACT noted that used truck sales have been consistently below last year’s levels.

“April Class 8 used truck volumes fell by 3% month over month and year over year, ending their upward trek, while year-to-date declines continued for a fourth consecutive month, down 4% from April 2015,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president of commercial vehicle sector.

“Dealers are reporting that used truck sales remain below 2015 levels and inventories have risen, while used truck prices continue to drop.”

The average price of used trucks has increased by 4% over the previous month but is still 8% lower than it was at this point last year.
