Mack Defense Signs Big Contracts With Canadian Military

Mack Defense says it has won contracts from the Canadian Armed Forces to deliver more than 1,500 "medium" 8x8 trucks and for five years of in-service support in Canada and elsewhere.

The defense arm of Mack Trucks will also provide 300 trailers and 150 Armour Protection Systems. Deliveries will begin in the summer of 2017 with completion in the fall of 2018.

Two contracts were awarded by Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defense, and are valued at C$725 million.

The truck class is called Medium Support Vehicle System, part of the military's Standard Military Pattern program. Trucks include variants such as cargo, material handling cranes, load handling systems, and mobile repair trucks.  

Mack Defense will work with Canadian partners including Prevost, a Volvo Group sister company; Dumur Industries Ltd; EODC Inc.; and Link Suspensions of Canada’s Raydan Division.  

Prevost's plant in Sainte-Claire, Que., will assemble the vehicles. Volvo Group’s global supply chain, present across Canada and in 42 other countries worldwide, serves as the foundation of the support program.
