Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will have major roadway closures in place this weekend along the I-395/95 corridor from the Washington D.C. line to Garrisonville Road (Route 610) in Stafford County. Drivers should expect delays and plan alternative routes.

The following closures are scheduled:

I-395/95 HOV Lanes Closed All Weekend

All high occupancy vehicle lanes on I-395/95 will close beginning Friday night, Oct. 18 at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday morning, Oct. 21. Drivers will be directed to use the general purpose lanes between the Washington D.C. line and Dumfries.

I-95 South at Exit 143 Closed Friday and Saturday During Overnight Hours; Traffic Detoured to Route 1

All lanes are scheduled to close Friday and Saturday nights on I-95 south just before Marine Corps Base Quantico Russell Road, Exit 143 to Garrisonville Road (Route 610), Exit 148. Traffic will be detoured to U.S. Route 1. Lanes will begin closing on both nights at 9:30 p.m. with all lanes closed between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

This closure will allow crews to safely lift steel beams for a new bridge that will carry traffic from the future 95 Express Lanes located in the median to the right side of I-95 south, just north of the Garrisonville Road (Route 610) exit.

The following detour will be in place once all lanes on I-95 are closed:

All I-95 southbound traffic will be directed to Exit 148, MCBQ, Russell Road east, to U.S. Route 1 south, to Garrisonville Road (Route 610), and back to I-95 south. One lane on U.S. Route 1 south will also be closed prior to Russell Road to accommodate detour traffic.
