Beauty Is in the Mouse of the BeholderWeb Review by John Bendel, Technology Editor
Transportation.com has had a face lift. In a refreshing change of pace, the new site has abandoned a slick front page for a set of snappy, easily understood and very businesslike choices, among them: shipper’s quick quote, carrier’s shipment search and classifieds ad search.
Each choice provides a window for the needed search information. All three choices appear under the heading "Get down to business."
If that doesn’t get you on your way, a pulldown menu has the default message: "What do you want to do?" and provides 11 different destinations.
According to a press release, Transportation.com redesigned the site in line with preferences expressed by users. The company hired 37signals, a Chicago-based Web development firm, to assist with the look and feel of the site.
Transportation.com of Irvine, Calif., and Overland Park, Kan., was one of the first web transportation marketplaces to launch earlier this year. Though a number of trucking-related sites have recently unveiled improvements, Transportation.com leads the pack with this smartly designed, businesslike and intuitive site.
