An amendment written to resolve the issue of preemption by individual states of federal hours-of-service rules for truck drivers was passed on April 26 by a solidly bipartisan vote of 222-193 as part of the FAA Reauthorization Act currently being debated by the House of Representatives.

Freight Shipments, Spending Levels Post Double-Digit Gains

The U.S. Bank National Spend Index grew again during the first quarter of 2018 both sequentially and year-over-year, highlighting continued tightness in the truck market.

A measure of quarterly freight shipment and spending activity showed big gains in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same time a year ago, reflecting a stronger economy.
