TRALA Scores 90-Day ELD Waiver for Short-Term Truck Rentals

FMCSA has granted a TRALA request to provide a 90-day waiver of the ELD rule to trucks rented for 30 days or less.

A 90-day waiver from the electronic logging device mandate will soon be issued for carriers operating short-term rental trucks (defined as 30 days or less) by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

TRALA Affirms Effort to Prevent Truck Attacks

In the wake of a terrorist aiming a rented pickup truck down a bike path in an attack that killed 8 persons and injured another 12 in Manhattan on Halloween, the Truck Rental and Leasing Association has stated that it continues to “stand with all law enforcement in doing everything we can to prevent the misuse of trucks to do harm.”

FMSCA to Exempt Short-Term Truck Rentals from ELD Rule

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is expected to announce on Oct. 11 that it will grant an exemption from being required to use an electronic logging device to “all drivers of property-carrying commercial motor vehicles rented for eight days or less, regardless of reason.”

TRALA Truck Purchases Increase

Members of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) purchased 29% of all Class 2-7 commercial trucks in the U.S. and purchased more than 23% of all Class 8 tractors in 2016, according to a new industry survey.

TRALA Reports Progress on D.C. Diesel Ban

The Truck Renting and Leasing Association reports progress on an industry effort to fix the District of Columbia’s move to ban certain diesel engines. TRALA, speaking for a coalition that includes American Trucking Associations as well as local trucking interests, said the D.C. government is willing to rewrite a budget bill that would in effect ban the engines.
