Advocates Poll Rekindles Restart Fight

The fight over the 34-hour restart broke out again Thursday. A safety advocacy group released research indicating that the public does not want truck drivers to work longer hours, and trucking groups jumped in.

HOS Restart in Spotlight on Capitol Hill

The companies say they are going to have to drive more during the day as a consequence of the two-night, 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. sleep requirement in the new restart provision

Truck driver hours of service took center stage Tuesday as Senators grilled Anne Ferro, chief of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, on the new 34-hour restart provision. The exchanges during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing on the federal highway program were a prelude to a showdown Thursday on the restart.

ATA Bid to Cut Funding for HOS Restart Draws Sharp Reaction

The American Trucking Associations is trying to get Congress to cut off funding for the restart provision of the hours of service rule -- a maneuver that has provoked a sharp response from Anne Ferro, chief of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and concern among some carriers and the enforcement community.
