ABF Closing 30 Terminals

Less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight System is cutting its number of terminals from 277 to 247. In a “change of operations” filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, ABF parent company Arkansas Best said it had already eliminated eight facilities in the second half of this year, with the rest still yet to close.

UPDATED--The Teamsters ABF Master Negotiating Committee voted Wednesday that in light of the overwhelming vote against authorizing a strike against ABF Freight, the company's last proposal for the Central Region Local Cartage Agreement would be accepted. As a result, the ABF National Master Freight Agreement is now fully ratified.

UPDATED- A federal appeals court upheld the Obama administration’s pilot program for long-distance trucking across the U.S.-Mexico border. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied petitions by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association and the Teamsters union to declare the program illegal.
