Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx was sworn in as the nation’s 17th Secretary of Transportation by Judge Nathaniel Jones in a private ceremony at U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters at 11 a.m. today.

The Senate unanimously confirmed Anthony Foxx as the 17th Secretary of Transportation, to replace Ray LaHood. The 100 – 0 vote this morning concludes a smooth nomination process for the Charlotte, N.C., mayor. He was well received by Republicans as well as Democrats at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee.

President Obama nominated Anthony Foxx, the mayor of Charlotte, N.C., to replace Ray LaHood as Secretary of Transportation.
Foxx does not have a background in transportation – he was a practicing attorney before going into politics – but as mayor he has been instrumental in a number of important transportation projects.
