Trucking Productivity Facing Challenges

Logistics cost as a percent of GDP has been declining over the last 30 years, from 16% before deregulation to 8% now. But while logistics costs have been reduced, productivity has leveled out and may even decrease, according to Stifel's John Larkin, speaking at TMW's annual user conference.

Survey Confirms Tight Capacity

Trucking capacity is indeed tight, according to the third-quarter 2014 Fleet Sentiment Report survey conducted in July by CK Commercial Vehicle Research, and carriers are trying many methods to improve productivity.

Economic Watch: Factory Shipments, Orders Fall

New orders fell 0.7% from the month before, following a December drop of 2%, larger than first reported. Excluding transportation, new orders in January increased 0.2%.
