Supreme Court Partially Upholds ATA in L.A. Port Case

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Port of Los Angeles may not impose the placarding and parking requires of its concession plan on trucking companies. This in effect upholds part of the position American Trucking Associations took in pushing for the high court’s review of the port’s concession agreement.

Port of L.A. to Spend $400 Million on Capital Improvements

The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has adopted a 2013-14 fiscal year (FY) budget of approximately $1.1 billion for the Port of Los Angeles, including one of the largest annual Capital Improvement Programs - $399.9 million or 37% of the total budget - in the port's history.

Truckers File Lawsuit Over Independent Contractor Status

Two truck drivers working out of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have filed a lawsuit against the trucking company Harbor Express alleging they should be treated as employees, not owner-operators.

Strikers at Ports of L.A., Long Beach Reject Contract

In December, after an eight-day strike at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, tentative agreements were made that seemingly ended the strike. But, according to recent reports, the employees, who are members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union's Local 63 Office Clerical Unit, failed to ratify those tentative agreements.

Strike Slows Intermodal Traffic at LA-Area Ports

A strike by clerical workers at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has already diverted several container ships to other ports, and the National Retail Federation has asked President Obama to take action. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 63 Office Clerical Unit has established pickets outside terminals at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
