FMCSA Shuts Down Atlanta-based Southern Transportation Inc.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently shut down Atlanta-based trucking company Southern Transportation Inc. using new authorities given to FMCSA under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21).

Hill Transportation Leaders Focus on Highway Funding

Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, was one of the principal architects of the MAP-21 highway law and Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., serves as chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Commitee.

Sen. Barbara Boxer gave a shout-out to American Trucking Associations last week, thanking the trade group for supporting higher diesel taxes dedicated to highway funding.

DOT Moving Ahead with MAP-21 Freight Initiatives

The new National Freight Strategic Plan will look at different transportation modes.

The Department of Transportation is asking for nominations for a committee that will establish the National Freight Strategic Plan that's called for in last year's highway bill, and has proposed a process for desgnating a national freight network.

New Highway Law a Big Work Order for FMCSA

The new highway law sets an ambitious agenda for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration over the next couple of years. Most of the requirements in MAP-21 came from the agency's strategic plan, said administrator Anne Ferro as she introduced a presentation Monday on the agency's plans to implement the law.
