Obama Proposes Tax Reform to Raise Money for Highway and Other Investments

President Obama proposed a tax reform deal that would include a big, one-time investment in infrastructure. In remarks Tuesday at an Amazon Fulfillment Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., Obama said he would support lowering the corporate tax rate from 35% to 28%, and to 25% for manufacturers.

A new report says despite some improvements in the past decade, a substantial number of U.S. bridges are still in poor condition. The report from the Government Accountability Office was in response to the May collapse of a bridge along Interstate 5 in Washington state.

The new law also limits putting tolls along the state’s section of I-95.

Lawmakers in Wyoming have given final passage to legislation increasing the state tax on diesel and gasoline. Republican Governor Matt Meade is on record as supporting the 10 cents per gallon increase that would push state tax to 24 cents per gallon.
