Concerns about a strike at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach can finally be put to rest but there are new ones when it comes to talks involving ports on the other side of the country.

In December, after an eight-day strike at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, tentative agreements were made that seemingly ended the strike. But, according to recent reports, the employees, who are members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union's Local 63 Office Clerical Unit, failed to ratify those tentative agreements.

A looming strike at East and Gulf Coast ports has been avoided as the months-long labor negotiations finally reached a tentative agreement. Late Friday, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director George H. Cohen, who has been moderating the negotiations since last year, issued a statement indicating that a tentative agreement had been reached regarding the Master Agreement between the United States Maritime Alliance and the International Longshoremen’s Association.
