ATA, Minnesota Trucking Association Request Sleeper Berth Pilot Project

Schneider: New HOS Rules Hurt Productivity

ORLANDO -- The changes to the federal commercial driver hours of service rules that went into effect July 1 caused the issue to top the American Transportation Research Institute's annual survey of more than 4,000 trucking industry executives, truck drivers, trucking industry suppliers and government.

A federal appeals court generally affirmed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s new hours-of-service rule. It rejected the agency’s application of the 30-minute break to short-haul drivers.The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld the 34-hour restart provision of the new truck driver hours-of-service rule but rejected the 30-minute break requirement for short-haul drivers.

OSHA Fines Carrier for Firing Driver Who Refused to Run Over Hours

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration office in Boston has ordered Massachusetts-based motor carrier Brillo Motor Transportation and its owner to reinstate a former employee and pay him $96,864 in back wages and interest, $9,669 in compensatory damages and $25,000 in punitive damages.
