Feds Offer $100M in Biofuel Fueling Grants

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is offering up to $100 million in grants to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia to support and expand biofuel infrastructure, according to a press release from the USDA.

Obama Lowers Ethanol Blending Levels

President Obama's U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reduced the federal required levels of ethanol that must be blended with gasoline, which dealt a blow to a biofuel that's falling out of favor in an era of cheap gasoline.

A bi-partisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced legislation that would end the ethanol mandate, following a similar measure introduced in the U.S. Senate in late February.

Average Cost of Diesel Falls for Fifth Straight Week, Gasoline Falls Again

The price of diesel has declined to a level not seen since late last July, according to the new weekly roundup of prices from the U.S. Energy Department. It has fallen 0.3 cents in the past week for a U.S. average of $3.838 per gallon.

Much More Iowa Fuel Contains Biodiesel

A new report from the Iowa state Department of Revenue says biodiesel made from plant oil or animal fat is blended with more than 42% of all diesel sold in the Hawkeye State.
