At Least 15 Lawsuits vs. Cat on ACERT Diesels Include Trucks, Buses

Multiple lawsuits against Caterpillar for chronic failures of its 2007-2010 ACERT diesels go beyond heavy trucks, and include school buses and motor coaches as well as at least one marine engine, according to news reports, while a wide variety of problems have been chronicled in discussion groups on the Internet.

Clean Diesels Claim 33% of On-Highway Market

Since the first clean diesel engines were introduced more than seven years ago, they now represent about one-third of all the trucks registered to operate on U.S. highways. The total population of in-service clean diesel engines now numbers about 2.8 million.

New Oil Standard Won't Have Adhesive Wear Test

Shell Engine Teardown Compares Protection of Experimental Oil

These engine parts are from a teardown of an engine using an experimental low-HTHS viscosity oil. A visual inspection shows no noticeable differences in wear between it and the higher-viscosity oil.

The world’s largest independent engine maker, Cummins Inc., is partnering with the biggest truck builder, Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd. of China, in a joint venture that will see Foton use Cummins ISG diesels in a new truck series developed with Daimler of Germany.

Paccar Reports Record Revenue for Last Year

Paccar has installed more than 51,000 of its MX-13 engines in Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks in North America since the start of production in 2010.

Paccar, the parent to truck makers Peterbilt and Kenworth, reported record revenue of $17.12 billion in 2013 compared to revenue of $17.05 billion the year before.
