Teamsters Accept Contract with ABF

UPDATED--The Teamsters ABF Master Negotiating Committee voted Wednesday that in light of the overwhelming vote against authorizing a strike against ABF Freight, the company's last proposal for the Central Region Local Cartage Agreement would be accepted. As a result, the ABF National Master Freight Agreement is now fully ratified.

OSHA Orders Trucking Company and Owner to Withdraw Retaliatory Lawsuit, Pay Former Workers

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has ordered Palumbo Trucking of North Branford, Conn., and owner David Palumbo to withdraw what is says is a retaliatory lawsuit filed against two former workers who raised safety concerns, pay them $60,000 in damages and take other corrective actions.

Economic Watch: Unemployment Dips Overall and for Trucking

The nation’s unemployment rate continues moving lower inch-by-inch, hitting a five-year low, according to the U.S. Labor Department. It fell to 7.2% in September compared to 7.3% in August.

ATA to Allow Non-Members in National Truck Driving Championships

ORLANDO -- The American Trucking Associations’ board of directors on Tuesday voted to make the National Truck Driving Championships more inclusive by allowing non-ATA members of state trucking associations to compete in the annual safety competition. The decision was made during the group’s Management Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla.
