Sales of diesel particulate filters for commercial trucks and buses in California increased at the end of 2013 and in the first half of 2014 compared to the first half of 2013, according a survey released by the Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association.

Tampering Not New, But Dirties Exhaust and Can Damage Engines, Reps Say

Tampering attempts have become more desperate and damaging since 2002, when exhaust-gas recirculation equipment first appeared on diesels, and 2007, when particulate filters were required.

How much tampering with exhaust emissions equipment goes on out there? No one knows for sure, but panelists at a session of the Technology & Maintenance Council’s fall meeting in Pittsburgh last week said they had seen some flagrant cases.

DPF Maker Cleaire Shuts Down Following Fires and Recalls

Sparks from several Cleaire retrofit DPFs started several forest fires in Washington State. One fire claimed 29 homes.

Brush fires caused by sparks from its diesel particulate filters and expensive recalls have apparently caused Cleaire, Inc., a California specialty manufacturer, to suddenly shut down.
