EPA Signs Off on Oberon’s DME as Alternative Fuel

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved Oberon Fuel’s biogas-based dimethyl ether as meeting the agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard, helping clear the way for it to be an alternative fuel for trucking.

Testing standards group ASTM International has issued a standard specification for the diesel alternative in truck engines, dimethyl ether.

Mack to Begin Production of DME-Powered Vehicles in 2015

Mack's MP8engine will power the DME-fueled MACK Pinnacle.

DME has the same performance and energy efficiency as diesel. The fuel is compression-ignited, is handled and stored similar to propane and does not need cryogenic temperatures or high tank pressures.

Volvo Trucks to Begin Production and Testing of Bio-DME Vehicles in North America

Volvo Trucks in North American announced plans to begin production in 2015 of vehicles powered by Dimethyl Ether, a fuel that mirrors the performance qualities and energy efficiency of diesel. DME also burns clean without producing any soot.

Volvo Trucks announced Thursday it plans to begin limited production in 2015 of dimethyl ether (DME) powered heavy-duty commercial vehicles. It's teaming up with Safeway and Oberon Fuels for a test funded with $500,000 from California's San Joaguin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
