Diesel, gasoline prices climb

Prices for both diesel and gasoline saw a jump this week at the pump. Diesel prices rose this week at an average of 2.5 cents across the nation to rest at $3.93. According to the Energy Information Administration's weekly Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update, diesel prices nationally are an average of 7.7 cents above where they were last year at this time.

Diesel prices creep back upward

The price for diesel rose marginally this week with a nationwide average increase of 0.8 cents per gallon. Prices averaged out at $3.90, according to the Energy Information Administration's weekly fuel update

Consumers experienced another decrease in prices for diesel this week as prices fell an average of 1.7 cents per gallon across the nation to rest at $3.89

Crude Oil, Diesel Prices Projected to Fall

In its Short-Term Energy Outlook report, the Energy Information Administration projects that Brent crude along with diesel prices will see a slight decrease in 2013 and 2014. EIA projects that the Brent crude oil spot price, which averaged $112 per barrel in 2012, will fall to an average of $105 per barrel in 2013 and $99 per barrel in 2014.

As the holiday week opened, diesel prices continued their recent downward trend, while gasoline prices crept back upward. The Department of Energy's Information Administration reported a nationwide drop of 2.2 cents in the price of a gallon diesel earlier this week. The average price was $3.92 per gallon
