When Cooper's new worldwide center of excellence for tire science and technology is fully operational it will employ 40 scientists and engineers, many of whom will be in highly specialized technical roles. Technology developed will be deployed at Cooper facilities around the world.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said it will pursue damages against Apollo Tyres Ltd. in a webcast following the announcement of its decision to terminate the merger agreement, according to Modern Tire Dealer, a sister publication of HDT.

On Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, Judge Sam Glasscock III, vice chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery, ruled that Apollo was not in breach of its merger agreement with Cooper, which had filed a complaint to the contrary.

Apollo Tyres Ltd.'s friendly takeover of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is not so friendly anymore. On Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, Cooper filed a complaint in Delaware Chancery Court asking that subsidiaries of Apollo "be required to expeditiously close the pending merger between the two tire companies in accordance with the terms of the definitive merger agreement."

Apollo Tyres Ltd and Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. announced the execution of a definitive merger agreement under which a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apollo will acquire Cooper in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $2.5 billion.
