Pre-inspection Program Begins at Peace Bridge for U.S. Bound Freight

The U.S. and Canada have officially launched the second phase of the truck cargo pre-inspection pilot program at the Peace Bridge crossing between Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, N.Y. in what might eventually lead to land pre-clearance for trucks at many other border crossings.

U.S. trade with its North American Free Trade Agreement partners, Canada and Mexico, amounted to $103.1 billion in October, up 4.5% from the same time a year earlier and exceeded $100 billion for the first month on record, according to new U.S. Department of Transportation figures.

More Than 10.5 Million Truck Crossings Into the U.S. in 2012

Border crossings into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico in 2012 included 10.7 million truck crossings, along with with personal vehicles entering the U.S. nearly 96 million times (33.1 million from Canada, and 62.7 million from Mexico.) The stats also include 320,000 buses and 37,000 trains.
