The For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index decreased 3.1% in February to 131.6, the lowest level since September of last year. Winter weather, slow retail sales, and other industries were to blame for the slow month.

On Saturday night the Senate passed and sent to President Obama a bill that replaces the controversial restart with an earlier, less restrictive, version while the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration does more research on the issue.

Former ATA Executive Passes Away

ATA president Bill Graves sent out a statement announcing that Clint Wheeler, a former ATA member who worked in the executive office, passed away from liver cancer. Wheeler joined the ATA in 1989 before leaving to work at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1997.
