Crews have completed paving of the southbound rest area of the I-95 Welcome Center rest areas in Howard County. Work will begin on the northbound rest area on Monday, May 20. A barometer of future U.S. economic activity rose in April following a drop in March, signaling growth could speed up later in the year. The Index of Leading Economic Indicators from the private research group The Conference Board, shows a 0.6% gain in April to 95, following a downwardly revised 0.2% drop in March.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a number of proposed rules scheduled for this summer, including establishing a drug and alcohol database, mandatory speed limiters and prohibiting driver coercion. However, proposals on electronic logs, entry-level driver training and safety fitness probably won't be unveiled as scheduled, according to a panel discussion May 15 during Zonar's inaugural user's conference.
