Although work trucks are typically smaller and lighter than Class 8 freight haulers, often they are more complex and take more work to design and assemble. Work trucks are built to carry tools, parts, expendable supplies and other equipment that its driver or crew needs to accomplish a job.

Pushing the Telematics Boundaries A truck’s telematics unit acts as a communications hub, transmitting data from various sensors and systems on the truck. While they send the collected data back to the fleet, they also receive data such as driver instructions, or commands to various devices such as the refrigeration unit.

There’s no shortage of readers who want me to intervene on their behalf because they’ve been victimized in some way. At least that’s how they describe their plight. Maybe it’s a “lemon” of a truck, possibly a contract dispute, sometimes a fight with an idiotic bureaucracy. For reasons I don’t always understand, they think I’m a consumer watchdog of some sort.
