UPS Freight, ABF Increase Rates 5.9%

UPS Freight and ABF announced separately that they will revise their general rates and charges. A general rate increase of 5.9% was announced for non-contractual shipments in the United States, Canada and Mexico. ABF stated that the effect on specific lanes and shipments will vary.

Spot Market Loads Increase, Rates Don’t Improve

The number of loads available on one spot market board has surged over the previous week but rates are stagnant during the same time. DAT/Transcore reports May 12 through 18 the number of loads available in the U.S. increased 6.7% from the previous week.

Spot Freight Index Up 7.7% in First Quarter

Spot market freight volumes reported by the DAT North American Freight Index finished the first quarter of 2013 up 7.7% compared to the first quarter of 2012 and rose 11% over the previous quarter.
