Heartland Express Reports Improved Second Quarter Profit

Iowa-based truckload carrier Heartland Express announced financial results for the second quarter of the year, showing net income increased $0.9 million to $19.1 million compared to $18.2 million in the 2012 period, a 5% increase.

Navistar Inc. announced the launch of its heavy-duty International WorkStar vocational trucks powered by the company's 13-liter engine with Selective Catalytic Reduction emissions technology. Navistar Recalling More Than 7,700 Trucks

Navistar is recalling more than 7,700 2012-2013 International ProStar and TranStar commercial trucks, manufactured from August 1, 2011, through July 10, 2012, that are equipped with front brake linings listed as feature codes 0504501, 0504504, or 04EWM. The brake S-Cam tube bracket assemblies made by Meritor on the steer axles may fracture.

Navistar Reports 2Q Loss of $374 Million, Strong Increase in May Orders

Navistar International Corp. announced a second quarter net loss of $374 million, or $4.65 per diluted share, compared to a second quarter 2012 net loss of $172 million, or $2.50 per diluted share. At the same time, it said it has seen a strong increase in May Class 8 orders and announced it will start adding SCR aftertreatment to its medium-duty trucks.
