Caltrans Completes 90 Miles of I-80 Improvements from Auburn to Nevada

Caltrans has finished rebuilding 90 miles of I-80 between Auburn and the Nevada state line, infrastructure improvements that included rebuilding seven bridges, improving lighting and drainage and adding new traffic monitoring systems.

The California Department of Transportation is urging travelers who will be making a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area during Labor Day weekend to plan ahead and choose an alternate route now, because the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, along Interstate 80, will be closed.

Final Statistics Reveal I-80 Challenge Makes Strong Impact

The eleven states from California to New Jersey dedicated nearly 23,000 enforcement hours to the I-80 Challenge. The officers working along I-80 removed 162 impaired drivers from the road, and issued 14,274 traffic citations and 9,411 warnings to passenger vehicle drivers. Additionally, 1,711 citations and 2,978 warnings were issued to commercial motor vehicle drivers.

I-80 Challenge Ups Law Enforcement on Roads

Yesterday in Des Moines, Iowa with the the Interstate 80 Challenge was offically launched. The I-80 Challenge is a multi-state awareness and high-visibility enforcement effort to encourage all drivers to drive safely on the Interstate 80 corridor and to support the efforts of the law enforcement officers. The challenge runs from July 24 to July 31.

Some Utah Speed Limits Likely to Move Higher

Speed limits along some Utah interstates could move higher for both trucks and four-wheelers as soon as later this spring due to legislation signed into law by Governor Gary Herbert. It expands the area along I-15 where 80 mph is permitted.
