In a November 14 letter to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance said that Safety Measurement System scores should be available to police but not to the public.

From September 7-13 – Brake Safety Week – more than 30,000 brake inspections are expected to be conducted. Roadside inspectors will be inspecting brake-system components to identify loose and missing parts; air and hydraulic fluid leaks; worn linings, pads, drums and rotors; and other faulty brake-system components.

Brake Safety Week Inspection Results Show Lowest Brake System Out-of-Service Rate Yet

This year, participating agencies inspected 20,067 vehicles throughout Brake Safety Week and placed 2,714 commercial vehicles out-of-service for brake violations. The rate for brake violations ties with May 2013 and September 2010 for the lowest OOS rates recorded since similar events began in 1998.

The results are in for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Roadcheck 2013, which took place June 4-6. Commercial vehicle inspectors across North America completed 73,023 truck and bus inspections during the 72-hour enforcement and safety outreach campaign.
