Brake Safety Week Inspection Results Show Lowest Brake System Out-of-Service Rate Yet

This year, participating agencies inspected 20,067 vehicles throughout Brake Safety Week and placed 2,714 commercial vehicles out-of-service for brake violations. The rate for brake violations ties with May 2013 and September 2010 for the lowest OOS rates recorded since similar events began in 1998.

Roadcheck 2013: One in Five Vehicles Inspected Placed Out-of-Service

The results are in for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Roadcheck 2013, which took place June 4-6. Commercial vehicle inspectors across North America completed 73,023 truck and bus inspections during the 72-hour enforcement and safety outreach campaign.

Questions Continue about CSA; Logs, Lamps Top CSA Violations

Regulatory Climate Explored at Zonar Conference

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a number of proposed rules scheduled for this summer, including establishing a drug and alcohol database, mandatory speed limiters and prohibiting driver coercion. However, proposals on electronic logs, entry-level driver training and safety fitness probably won't be unveiled as scheduled, according to a panel discussion May 15 during Zonar's inaugural user's conference.
