Why Fleets Should Be Looking Beyond ELD

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

With the ELD Mandate deadline looming, fleets are understandably focused on ensuring they are compliant. But many fleets plan to minimally comply – investing as little as possible in ELD technology. For those fleets, ELDs will always be a cost center. By contrast, for fleets taking a long-term view, ELDs can be a profit center.

In this event, John Seidl, Transportation Consultant at Integrated Risk Solutions - a nationally known DOT/FMCSA expert - and 25-year telematics veteran Pete Allen, Executive Vice President at MiX Telematics, will describe how fleets can leverage ELDs for strategic advantage, including:

  • Improved safety

  • Improved efficiency

  • Improved security

Attendees will learn how fleets taking this approach have been able to reduce their overall costs by $50-100 per vehicle, per month, even after accounting for the cost of their ELD solutions.

Speakers:

John Seidl, Transportation Consultant, Integrated Risk Solutions

Pete Allen, Executive Vice President Sales, MiX Telematics (North America)

Finders, Keepers: Winning Ways to Recruit and Retain Drivers

Wednesday, September 6, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

Today’s truck driver is every bit a professional as any other skilled job. But if you want people to view trucking as a profession, you need to package it as such.

With National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (September 10-17) around the corner, it’s the perfect time to discuss how to bring drivers on board as professionals and then craft an appealing career path for them.

Our panel of expert speakers will discuss:
    • Building relationships with truck driving schools
    • Attracting younger drivers
    • Better onboarding practices
    • Rethinking pay and home time
    • Benefits you may not have thought of
    • Outlining and rewarding clear goals and expectations
    • And more!

HDT Editor in Chief Deborah Lockridge will lead the discussion and will be joined by Duff Swain, President of Trincon, and Tom McKellar, VP of Transportation for Plastic Express.

Speakers:

Deborah Lockridge, Editor in Chief, Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine

Leveraging Video Safety to Incentivize and Reward Drivers

Wednesday, August 30, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

Your drivers are your most valuable assets, but how can you keep them safe and happy on the road? No longer can you rely on a simple safety bonus once a year. You need to continually motivate your drivers while ensuring safety is maintained throughout your fleet. Video safety provides an objective way to measure your drivers’ progress. Better yet, it can be used to help incentivize them to be safer and reward those who are.

Join us on August 30th to learn how Cypress Truck Lines successfully implemented a rewards program, best practices for rolling out the program, and how it has impacted their drivers’ results.

Speaker:

Matthew Penland, VP, Risk Management, Cypress Truck Lines

Countdown to ELD: Get Your Burning Questions Answered

Tuesday, August 29, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

With time running out for fleets to implement an ELD solution, there are still many questions to be answered. For example:

  • How do I know my ELD is compliant?
  • How do I know if I’m exempt?
  • Who has access to my ELD data?
  • Would an AOBRD fulfill the mandate?

This is your chance to get answers to these and other pressing ELD questions.

After a panel of ELD experts addresses some common questions being asked by fleets, you will have the chance to ask your questions about implementing and complying with the ELD Mandate. No topic — technical, operational, or legal — is off limits.

The FMCSA hosted two Q&A sessions in July, which quickly filled up — this is a not-to-be missed opportunity. The December 18, 2017, ELD Mandate deadline is fast approaching, and this could be your only chance to get your questions answered. Don’t wait. Register today!

Recruiting and Retaining Talent Amidst the Driver Shortage

Originally aired: Wednesday, July 12, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) estimate the trucking industry is currently short about 55,000 professional drivers. But with nearly 70 percent of all goods in North America being shipped on trucks, trucking companies know they need to have a strong strategy in place to attract and keep their drivers. Discovering the secret to keeping drivers happy lies in listening to the voices of professional truck drivers.

In this webinar, Ryder experts unveil what professional truck drivers really want and how addressing their needs can help ease the shortage. The answers are not what you think.

Learning Objectives:

  • What truck drivers really want from their employers
  • Best practices to recruit and retain drivers
  • How some companies are improving work conditions for drivers
  • How the right strategy can ease turnover and build a strong pool of talent for your company

Speaker:

Patrick Pendergast, Group Director, Talent Acquisition, Ryder System, Inc.

4 ELD Myths and What You Should Know About Bundled Solutions

Originally aired: Thursday, June 22, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

With any new, complicated set of regulations there can be plenty of confusion. In the case of how fleets need to implement electronic logging devices (ELDs) to be in compliance with the ELD mandate, myths abound — and need dispelling:

  • Myth #1: Every ELD Vendor Who Is Certified Is Really Certified
  • Myth #2: Device Registration = Verification
  • Myth #3: If I Purchase a Non-Compliant Device from a Provider, They Will Replace it — No Sweat!
  • Myth #4: I’ll Wait ‘Til November to Find A Solution. I Have Plenty of Time — and How Hard Can it Be?

Adding to the complication is considering the option of a bundled ELD/GPS tracking solution. But bundling has a number of advantages, among them the ability to have all driver and vehicle data provided in a single platform, giving added transparency to the fleet manager and drivers.

Join us for this webinar and learn how a bundled solution can help you seamlessly comply with the regulations, and give you a deeper insight into your fleet operations in a single, integrated data stream — improving operations, reporting, and the bottom line.

Heavy Duty Trucking Editor in Chief Deborah Lockridge will explore four ways to do just that, with the help of one fleet’s driver retention expert and sponsor Compli. We’ll look at four areas:

  1. How to do onboarding right — and do it efficiently
  2. Training drivers without wasting their time and your money
  3. Why ongoing communication is key to a driver-centric corporate culture
  4. Keeping drivers safe for their sake and yours

Learn how a mix of technology and personal attention can help you retain drivers without breaking the bank.

The Dollars and Sense of Outsourcing Maintenance

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 ● 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET

Fleets may consider outsourcing to major leasing companies due to their technological prowess and extensive service capabilities. Some fleets are drawn to the full-service leasing and contract maintenance services offered by these firms because lessors remain ‘brand neutral,’ so they can spec or service any make or model of truck.

This Heavy Duty Trucking webinar, sponsored by Ryder, will feature several fleet managers who have opted to outsource their truck spec’ing and/or maintenance requirements to a major truck lessor. Our speakers will discuss:

  • What led them to consider outsourcing
  • Why they opted to outsource to a leasing company
  • Their experience to date in terms of cost control, quality of service, and vehicle uptime

This panel will be moderated by HDT Executive Editor David Cullen and will include a question-and-answer session open to all attendees.

Panelists:
Darry Stuart, President/CEO, DWS Fleet Management Services

Dan Deppeler, VP Maintenance, Paper Transport, Inc.

David Duhamel, President, N & D Transportation
