J.J. Keller & Associates has developed a guide for new drivers called the DOT Handbook: A Compliance Guide for Truck Drivers.

The guide provides drivers with a wide range of information on Department of Transportation rules compliance and general orientation topics. The guide is positioned as a tool for driver finishing training, new hire orientation training and as a reference guide drivers new to the field.

The handbook helps carriers meet DOT’s entry-level driver training requirements, says J.J. Keller. It contains information covering the following:

  • Accident procedures
  • Cargo securement
  • Driver qualification
  • Drug and alcohol policies and regulations
  • Expectations of drivers
  • Hours of Service
  • Personal safety, security and wellness
  • Roadside inspections
  • Safe driving skills
  • Trip planning
  • Vehicle inspections

The DOT Handbook is divided into four major sections: general information, trip preparation, on the road and incident/accident handling procedures. Each section also features a quiz at the end.
