Colorado Flooding Closes Part of I-25, I-70 and Other Routes

Highway closures in Colorado continue in areas of Denver, portions of northern Colorado and points west of the Front Range today due to flooding, and rock and mudslides.

As of around 10am, Mountain Time, the Denver Post reported the following Interstate road closures:

  • I-25 from Colorado 7 north to Wyoming
  • I-70 westbound in the mountains at Beaver Brook, closed by a rock slide
  • I-25 ramps onto to Colorado Highway 119 closed in both directions.
  • I-70 eastbound exit ramp to Quebec Street
  • I-70 eastbound ramp onto southbound I-225

Numerous other roadways in the state are also closed.

You can get a updated list at http://www.denverpost.com or by logging on to the Colorado Transportation Department at http://www.coloradodot.info. There have been some problems with the state DOT web site.

The state DOT describes the road closures as “far and wide” and is advising the public to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary in the following counties:

  • Boulder (where the City of Boulder is located)
  • Larimer (home to Ft. Collins)
  • Weld (eastern part of Ft. Collins)
  • Jefferson (western part of Denver)
  • Clear Creek (west of Denver along I-70)
  • Gilpin county (just north of I-70, west of Denver)

The flooding has forced thousand of people from their homes, killing at least three people with one missing.

Update add I-70 section reopening.
