The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is warning motor carriers of another round of fraudulent letters issued to DOT contractors and potential contractors asking for financial information.


These fraudulent letters request that current or potential contractors register by submitting their company's financial information on a release form entitled, "Authorization to release financial information."

Any direct communication from DOT should always be accompanied with detailed contact information. In addition, DOT procurement representatives will only request financial information in reference to specific contracts awarded. DOT does not request financial information from prospective contractors wishing to submit a bid proposal or quote.

The latest versions were signed by "Joshua Greenberg" and went out in the past week and a half. Another one in late January was signed by "John Steinberg," both claiming to be the "senior procurement officer."

FMCSA warns motor carriers or other potential DOT contractors to no complete the release form which is attached to the letter and not release any information to the fax number cited in the letter. More information can be obtained from the following websites:
