Eaton Corp. has announced that C&C Trucking Inc., of Duncan, S.C., has specified the Eaton VORAD EVT-300 collision warning system on its recent purchase of 75 International 9400 tractors to be delivered in 2005 and 2006.
C&C Trucking CEO Charlie Tapp said the biggest reason his company decided to install the VORAD system – including Forward Collision Warning, SmartCruise Adaptive Cruise Control and the BlindSpotter side sensor – was to increase safety. Tapp said he was particularly interested in VORAD’s early warning detection feature.
“We run lines from Georgia to New England in heavy traffic and our drivers are on the road a lot at night when you face the greatest risk of fatigue,” said Tapp. “The extra seconds provided by VORAD allow our drivers the reaction time needed to avoid accidents in these kind of driving conditions.”
In addition to a reduction in accidents, C&C is looking to decrease its insurance costs with the use of the VORAD system.
“I’m convinced the savings and payback are there with VORAD,” said Tapp. “We expect to see a reduction in accidents and ultimately our insurance costs.”
The VORAD Collision Warning System uses warnings that alert the driver to objects up to 500 feet ahead, even around curves, and can track up to 20 vehicles at a time. All of VORAD’s features combine to reduce rear-end, rollover and road-departure collisions.
C&C Trucking operates 120 trailers that carry mostly truckload and expedited freight. C&C provides services in the contiguous 48 states and Ontario, Canada.
