Hernando Today reported this week that county commissioners instructed administrator Gary Adams to meet with the director of an airport there about using a large piece of land near the sewage treatment plant for trucker parking.

Hernando County lies north of Tampa, Pla.
The airport property, close to the Suncoast Parkway interchange, is far enough away from residential communities to accommodate the drivers, Adams said.
If the property is available, the county would prefer a private entrepreneur take over the operation of the truckstop. Failing that, Adams said he will look into whether the county could take over sole management of the property. But before that happens, the county would have to explore insurance, liability and fencing around the property and the site would have to meet county code standards, he said.
Adams said he hopes to bring a proposal back to county commissioners in two or three weeks.
According to Hernando Today, truck drivers recently shut out of the vacant Kmart lot in Spring Hill have been trying to find other parking places to park.
