Paying fuel taxes in Idaho just got easier.

Idaho-based truckers who travel in the United States and Canada and are licensed under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) can now file fuel tax returns and make payments for free through Access Idaho, the state's official web site.
The online service can be found by following the electronic filing link from the home page ( www.accessIdaho.com ) and is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Under the International Fuel Tax Agreement, an interstate trucker can report all miles driven in the continental 48 states and Canada by filing a single return with a "base state."
The base state then shares information and transfers motor fuel tax revenues to other states and provinces based on the truck's mileage in each jurisdiction. There are 58 IFTA jurisdictions, including 48 states and 10 Canadian provinces.
With the new online IFTA system, Idaho-based truckers can now file these returns over the Internet.
The IFTA online tax-filing program is the first of its kind in North America and was funded by the Federal Commercial Vehicle Information System Network. The service was developed jointly by the Idaho State Tax Commission, the Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho Information Consortium, a wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC that manages Access Idaho on behalf of the state.
