A small Maine trucking company has agreed to permanently shut down after pleading guilty to falsifying records related to hours of service regulations.

John Michaud, a truck driver ad the owner of L&M Trucking of St. Agatha, Maine, was sentenced to three years probation and a $2,000 fine. The company employed four drivers and operated three trucks and five trailers.
In a 2000 federal safety compliance review, investigators found that almost half of the company’s driver’s logs were missing, and many of those that were found were falsified. The review also found that nearly 80 percent of the gas and toll receipts used to verify log books were hole-punched to obscure the date and time they were issued.
