3M has given up the commercialization of its Lane Awareness System for snow removal operations.

The reason given for the move was that the market for magnetic guidance developed more slowly than anticipated, according to a spokesman for the company’s ITS division. Plans are to explore "other emerging transportation technologies for future product development opportunities."
With the Lane Awareness System, snowplow operators are able to determine their truck's lane position when drifting and blowing snow hides all other visual clues.
