Members of Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Executive Committee pressed Congress for early action on reauthorization of transportation legislation to ensure a stable funding source for the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program.
CVSA told Congress that if reauthorization legislation is not passed by the time current interim legislation expires, not only would daily truck and bus inspections suffer, but also border enforcement, drug interdiction, inspector and special hazards materials training and traffic enforcement programs.
CVSA received mixed signals regarding the precise timetable for passing the legislation, but members of Congress did stress that transportation was one of the highest priorities on the minds of their constituents.
Next, the group plans to survey its member enforcement agencies on the detailed effects of another funding delay and will submit it to each member of the House and Senate.
