A bill that will allow local and state authorities to enforce regulations on the operation of CB radios within their jurisdictions was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week. However, it is unlikely to make it through both houses of Congress this session.

Complaints of CB radio privilege abuse helped push the bill along. Many base station owners have had problems with CB users amplifying their units to a point where nearby devices have been affected, like telephones and televisions.
Under the bill, state and local governments would have the right to enforce current CB laws instead of having to rely on federal offices for input.
A similar measure has been introdued in the Senate and has been referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, which has taken no action on the measure since June 22. Congress is set to adjourn Oct. 8, and it appears passage is very doubtful.
