The National Private Truck Council and Trailmobile presented Fleet Safety Awards to NPTC members with outstanding safety records at the recent NPTC 2000 Education and Management conference in Tampa, FL.

The awards are presented to those companies whose fleets experienced the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year. Awards are given for the entire fleet's vehicle accident frequency rate (VAFR) by fleet size and operational category.
The 2000 NPTC/Trailmobile Fleet Safety Award winners are:
Local Operation Small Fleet (less than 50 vehicles) - Lone Star Steel Company, Lone Star, TX; Regional Operation Small Fleet (less than 50 vehicles) - Steelcase Inc., Tustin, CA; Regional Operation Large Fleet (more than 50 vehicles) - Milliken & CO, Clinton, SC; Mixed Operation Small Fleet (less than 50 vehicles) - Newell Rubbermaid, Rockford, IL; Mixed Operation Large Fleet (more than 50 vehicles) - Harley-Davidson Motor Company, York, PA.
The council also awarded its annual safety recognition certificates honoring exceptional safety performance at fleets' individual terminal facilities.
The Gold Seal (Certificate of Achievement) is awarded to a company and its employees for outstanding safety performance in having operated its private truck fleet without experiencing a single accident during the past year. Those recipients were: Hittman Transport Services; Jerico Services; Moen Inc.; Orgill Inc.; Praxair Inc.; Steelcase Inc.; and United States Postal Service.
The Silver Seal Award (Certificate of Merit) is presented to a company and its employees to recognize the achievement of an improved safety record in the operations of its private trucks. This company must have reduced its accident frequency rate by 40% or more compared to its record of the previous year. Those honored included: Archer Daniels Midland Co.; Burlington Industries Inc.; Ecolab Inc.; EOTT Energy Corp.; Milliken & Co.; Orgill Inc.; Pillsbury Co.; Praxair Inc.; Rocco Inc.; Southern States Cooperative Inc.; Virco Manufacturing Corp.; and Wilsonart International Inc.
The Bronze Seal Award (Certificate of Progress) is awarded to a company and its employees for making progress in reducing its accident frequency rate by 20% to 39% compared with its record for the previous year. This year's honorees are: Archer Daniels Midland Co.; Hittman Transport Services; Milliken & Co.; Moen Inc.; Orgill Inc.; Southern States Cooperative Inc.; Springs Industries; Target Stores and Walgreen Co.
