Jan. 1 – A Pennsylvania truck driver won’t face criminal charges for an accident where his rig rolled over and crushed a car, killing three people, reports the Associated Press – but he has been targeted in a civil suit.

Last May, the 37-year-old trucker lost control on a curve on Interstate 94 near downtown St. Paul. The truck, carrying 41,000 pounds of macaroni and cheese, crushed a car. The car’s gas tank caught on fire, and flames engulfed both car and truck, killing the car driver and his two sons.
The State Patrol concluded that the driver was traveling too fast on the curve. It’s also possible the load shifted during the maneuver, contributing to the crash.
Prosecutors decided not to charge the man with a felony because there was no evidence of gross negligence or use of alcohol or drugs. However, the victim’s surviving family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver and his employer.
