Oct. 1 – A tank truck driver who died last weekend trying to avoid hitting cars at a busy intersection in Reno, NV, has been called a hero by some witnesses.
Dave Cermak, 55, of Sparks, NV, was killed Saturday after he swerved to avoid hitting two cars stopped at the intersection to help in another accident, report the Associated Press. His tanker rig loaded with gasoline overturned, triggering a fire and explosions. Four nearby vehicles were destroyed by flames, but all eight occupants escaped serious injury.
Witnesses said they thought Cermak may have rolled the truck over deliberately to avoid the other vehicles. At the very least, he swerved trying to avoid a collision.
“I really think he saved our lives by what he did,” Cathleen VanArkel told the AP.
