Truck Platooning Report Shows Fuel Economy Gains

A report on the first phase of research into the possible benefits of truck platooning technologies showed that all trucks in a platoon gained fuel efficiencies, with the lead truck gaining as much as a 5 percent improvement while the trailing truck got up to 10 percent improvement.

NTSB Report Finds Value in On-Board Video Systems

An NTSB report has concluded that on-board video systems can “provide valuable information for evaluating the circumstances leading to a crash,” if the cameras are positioned properly and if the systems are adequate for recording in low light.

Virginia Tech Working on Talking Car and Light Truck Technology

Following a U.S. Department of Transportation call to require vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology for all cars and light trucks on the nation’s highways, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute has been tapped to design the delivery integration framework that will allow vehicles to “talk” with their drivers and with other automobiles on the roadway.

That, along with an emphasis on enforcement, was the message from Jack Van Steenburg, chief safety officer for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in his keynote speech for Zonar Systems' inaugural users’ conference.
