Senate Bill Calls for Hourly Pay for Truck Drivers

Among other things, the bill calls for a look at the safety effect of long commutes before a driver even starts his day.

A new Senate bill calls for truck drivers to be paid by the hour and would increase minimum insurance levels, mandate collision avoidance systems and speed limiters, and study the effects on safety of truck drivers having to drive hours just to get to the start of their workday.

OOIDA Lobbying Against Speed-Limiter Rule

The OOIDA has provided the FMCSA and the NHTSA with research showing a lack of scientific evidence supporting a speed limiter mandate and saying that enforcing the rule would make highways less safe.

ATA Urges Fast Action on Speed-Limiter Rule

ATA is urging completion of truck speed-limiting rule and calling for a national 65-mph speed limit for all vehicles.

The American Trucking Associations is again urging the Department of Transportation to “move forward” with a rulemaking requiring installation of electronic speed-limiting devices on Class 7 and 8 trucks.
