Canadian Driver Repeatedly Ignores Out-Of-Service Orders

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has prohibited Ontario, Canada-licensed truck driver Inderjit Singh Gill from operating any commercial vehicle in the U.S. for falsifying records and repeatedly ignoring out-of-service violations.

FMSCA Denies Oil-Patch HOS Exemption Request

FMCSA has denied an application for an exemption from the 14-hour provision of the hours-of-service rules that would have let truck drivers serving oil and natural gas fields to exclude waiting time from their calculations of on-duty time.

NTSB: Trucker, Carrier, FMCSA at Fault in Fatal Truck Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board determined the probable cause of a fatal truck crash two year ago was a trucker's fatigue – but it said a carrier's failure to adhere to HOS rules and “inadequate safety oversight by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration" contributed as well.

By early December 2017, an estimated 3 million commercial drivers will have thrown out their paper logbooks. A long-anticipated rule requiring electronic logging devices (ELDs) for truck and bus driver hours of service was announced Thursday morning.

Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Fatal I-75 Crash

The NTSB preliminary report shows the damage to Brewer's vehicle following the crash.

The truck driver involved in a June 25 nine-vehicle crash on I-75 near Chattanooga, Tenn., that killed six people, has been charged with six counts of vehicular homicide, among other charges.

Restart Change Now in Effect

The pre-2013 34-hour restart rule is now in effect. On Tuesday President Obama signed the 2015 appropriations bill, which contains a provision suspending the more restrictive restart that went into effect as part of the hours of service rules enacted in July 2013.

American Trucking Associations won its fight against the 34-hour restart provision of the hours of service rule. On Saturday night the Senate passed and sent to President Obama a bill that replaces the controversial restart with an earlier, less restrictive, version while the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration does more research on the issue.
